I have been performing our Dental Implant surgery and oral surgery procedures for over 10 years, and I can confirm there is no reason for any patient to feel pain during the surgery. Not a single patient of mine has ever complained of pain. The most common approach is to have dental implant surgery under local anaesthetic injections.

Yes, there is a small pinch during anaesthetic administration, but once the anaesthetic has settled, there is 0 pain. What you do feel is pressure and vibrations. Unless you are sedated, you are awake and aware that you are undergoing surgery. The thought of this does cause anxiety for most people; it is absolutely normal to feel anxious when having any surgical intervention. I normally get concerned when people are not anxious.

After every procedure, I always obtain feedback from patients. Here are some common responses:

“There was nothing to be worried about”

“It did not hurt at all”

“ The worst bit was the injection”

“ I am surprised how quickly the procedure was done”

“ That was easier than having the tooth out”

“ That was easier than having a root canal”

“ I couldn’t feel the screw going in”

“ Are we finished already”

In conclusion, Dental Implant Surgery should not cause any physical pain whatsoever, if there is pain then there is an underlying severe infection or inappropriate technique of anaesthetic administration.

At Bespoke Dental & Implant Clinic, I am the Lead surgeon and ensure all my patients are treated with gentle care. We take steps to ensure we use effective numbing gels prior to administering injections. I have adapted my techniques to ensure no one feels more than two very mild pinches when having a single dental implant.
